This is the official website for the Milverton Victoria Rooms, unfortunately we cannot be responsible for information provided on other websites.
The Milverton Victoria Rooms were built in 1887 by Public Subscription and have been the centre of village and parish life ever since.
The building, consisting of a main hall, reading room, kitchen, toilets and storerooms, is operated as a village hall by a Management Committee who are Charity Trustees governed by a scheme approved by the Charity Commission. Registered Charity No 293948.
The building is available for hire for educational purposes, private parties, weddings, dances and concerts. It is regularly used by many of the village clubs, societies and educational organisations. The building is also available for hire for commercial purposes.
The Victoria Rooms have been awarded ‘Hallmark’ Levels 1 and 2 by the Community Council for Somerset in association with Action for Communities in Rural England.
The Trustees are very proud of our lovely Victorian village hall and, with our band of volunteer Friends of the Victoria Rooms, work hard to keep it in good condition for use by residents of Milverton and the wider local community.
As can be seen from the calendar of events, it is a popular venue for clubs and societies as well as private functions.
Whether you come to the Victoria Rooms as a hirer or as a visitor, you are very welcome and we hope that you enjoy using the facilities we offer.
Planned Increase of Hire Charges - April 2026
Since we last increased our hire charges in April 2024 general inflation has increased between 8.5% and 12% depending on the basis and timescale used. In particular we are paying much higher prices for our energy costs. Energy costs make up around 15% of our total expenditure. The price we pay for electricity has risen by 59% and the gas price by 90% since April 2024. Standing charges have also increased, by 30% for electricity and 135% for gas.
Prices are forecast to rise by around 2.5% and 3.5% over the next 12 months.
The recent survey of our historic, largely Victorian building indicate expenditure required to maintain the Hall in good working order over the next five years of over £60,000. While we will be seeking grants to cover much of this we will need to raise some of this from our own resources.
Our proposed increases are around 14.5%
Main Hall Charges will increase from £21 to £24 for the first 2hrs and will be £11p/h thereafter
Reading Room Charges will increase from £14 to £16 for the first 2hrs and will be £8p/h thereafter
The Kitchen charge for the full use of the kitchen will increase to £15 per hire.
The trustees hope you can understand why we have decided to increase the hire charges and we hope you will continue to support us.
Thank you
